Maternal care includes: Family planning: Access to contraception and safe abortion services Prenatal care: Regular checkups to assess weight, fetal growth, and other factors. Prenatal tests can check for issues like anemia, infection, gestational diabetes, and hypertension. Postnatal care: Timely care for both the mother and newborn Emergency care: Access to emergency obstetric and neonatal care when needed Skilled health professionals: All births should be attended by skilled health professionals Some programs in India that support maternal care include: Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakaram (JSSK): Provides free maternity services for women and children, including free delivery, drugs, diagnostics, blood, diet, and transport Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA): Provides free, comprehensive antenatal care on the 9th of every month
